Tohoku University Metaverse VE Project

Tohoku University in Japan is opening their online course up to students from their partner universities. Students from TU Dortmund University may sign up by 4 October to participate in the course. After successful completion participants will receive an Open Badge, an internationally recognized digital credential (micro-credential). Students of TU Dortmund University may also use the course to fulfill requirements for the "Zertifikat Studium International".
About the Course
“Exploring Global Social Issues through XR and the Metaverse”
In this online course, students from around the world will engage in real-time discussions on global social issues using VRChat and XR technologies. Together, you will collaboratively create Metaverse worlds and deliver immersive international presentations.

Information Session
Monday, October 6, 2:40 PM – 3:40 PM (JST, via Google Meet) (=7:40 - 8:40 am CEST)
During this session, we will provide an overview of the course and allocate time for questions and answers.
Students who wish to participate are kindly requested to complete a short questionnaire via Google Form (below) by October 4. (Upon submission, the Google Meet link for the information session will automatically be displayed.)
Please note that students may decide whether to participate after attending either the information session or the Q&A session following the first class.
VRChat Tutorial Session
Tuesday, October 7, 2:40 PM – 3:40 PM (JST, via Discord) (=7:40 - 8:40 am CEST)
Course Format
- Group work and presentations will be conducted using the Metaverse platforms VRChat and Discord.
- VRChat requires a Windows PC (recommended) or, with limited functionality, an Android device. Mac/iOS devices are not supported.
Open Badge Award
Students who actively participate in the course and meet certain requirements will receive an Open Badge, an internationally recognized digital credential (micro-credential).
Certificate "Studium International"
You can also have your participation in this course credited toward the Certificate “Studium International” for module B (language skills). The course counts as a language course in English or Japanese with 2 semester hours per week, i.e. a total of 30 teaching hours.
How to Participate
- Students wishing to participate must complete the Google Form by October 4 (Saturday).
- After completing the form and pressing the “Submit” button, the URL for the information session will be displayed. Please make sure to save this URL (screenshot recommended).
- Use this URL to join the information session on October 6.
