FAQ
On this website you will find a selection of answers to frequently asked questions about the International Summer Program (ISP).
Accommodation
During the ISP you will live together with other students in a dormitory. The dormitories are single rooms, with bathroom and kitchen usually shared with other students. Washing machines and dryers are available in the dormitories.
You will have wired Internet access in your room. Please bring your own LAN cable. A few weeks before the start of the program, you will be asked to provide us with your MAC address.
You can use the dormitory room during the program period. If you are still travelling after the ISP, you can leave your luggage at the International Office.
Application
To participate in the ISP, you must submit an online application. The application period is every year between 10 December and 15 February.
Please contact the International Office of your home university as early as possible, as you will have to be nominated by your advisor.
You will be informed via e-mail in mid-March whether you can participate in the ISP. You will receive further information on the procedure in this e-mail.
The ISP fee has to be paid by the beginning of April.
If you have to cancel your stay due to medical problems or other personal problems, you will receive a refund of the costs that are still refundable at the time of cancellation.
Arrival
Due to the geographical proximity, it is recommended that you land at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS). At the airport there is a train station with direct regional train connections to Dortmund main station. You can use these connections free of charge with the Deutschland-Semesterticket.
Alternatively, you could also land at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), for example. There is also a train station at the airport with a direct train connection to Dortmund main station. You can use the Deutschland-Semesterticket for the train journey. Please note, however, that you can only use regional train connections. It is not possible to travel on a high-speed train (IC/ICE/EC) with the Deutschland-Semesterticket. In this case, participants of the ISP must pay these travel costs themselves.
Please contact your Dortmund Double as early as possible. They will pick you up at the station and drive you to TU Dortmund University.
Courses
Theoretically, you may choose as many courses as you wish. In addition to the obligatory courses, we recommend to choose two to three courses.
You can choose courses from all three tracks. In the online application you will be asked to submit a preliminary course selection. However, this course selection is not binding, as the final course selection will only be made during the welcome event in Dortmund.
Yes, canceling and/or changing courses does not require formal notification. Simply write a short e-mail to the ISP team to inform them about the change.
No. The courses are all in English.
Examinations in Track A and Track C are scheduled after the regular end of lectures, i.e. in the week after the end of the lecture period. You will be informed about the examination schedule during the first weeks of lectures. Examinations in Track B are usually held in the last week of the lecture period.
Yes, upon successful completion of the program, your official Transcript of Records will be sent to your home institution. Your transcript will contain the courses you have successfully completed, the corresponding credits and your grades. The number of credits depends on the individual courses. The German course comprises 3 credits.
