A Direct Route to Studying in Germany

Studienbrücke

The program "Studienbrücke" is a study-preparatory educational program run by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and German partner universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and Thuringia. The program prepares students interested in studying or school graduates with outstanding academic performance linguistically, in terms of the subject language and learning culture specifically for direct entry into a bachelor's degree program at a German partner university in a MINT subject (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, technology) or in the subject of economics.

This preparation also includes German teaching, learning and campus culture and introduces students to the social environment. After successfully completing all modules of the program and graduating from school in their home country, prospective students can apply to selected German partner universities.

The program was created on the basis of an amendment to the Higher Education Act in North Rhine-Westphalia: In order to study at German universities, prospective students from non-EU countries often have to have studied in their home country or completed a preparatory year at a preparatory college ("Studienkolleg") and passed the assessment test ("Feststellungsprüfung"). The amendment to the law makes direct access to German universities possible after obtaining a university entrance certificate under certain conditions.

TU Dortmund University is one of the program's central partners and, as one of the universities in the University Alliance Ruhr, cooperates with the Goethe-Institut and the DAAD.

Further information on the program can be found on our German webpage for the program "Studienbrücke".
