Application for Degree Programs

You can find out here which requirements have to be met for your studies and how the application process works at TU Dortmund University.

Choice of Degree Program

Before you apply to study at TU Dortmund University, you should first of all consider your desired course of study. TU Dortmund University offers a wide range of courses from computer science or chemistry up to literature and cultural studies.

On the following website you can find a list of all degree programs offered at TU Dortmund University with an overview of whether they are offered as Bachelor's and/or Master's programs and in which language the respective program is taught. Please note that TU Dortmund University does not offer any English-language Bachelor's degree programs.

If you are still unsure about which field of study you are interested in and if you are looking for a suitable university location, you will find helpful information on the internet portal Higher Education Compass.

University Entrance Qualification

In order to­ be admitted to studies at TU­ Dortmund University­, a Higher Education Entrance Qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB)­ must­ be provided.

A Higher Education Entrance Qualification­ can be the highest school leaving certificate or the highest school leaving certificate­ combined with proof of a Higher Education Entrance Examination and/or periods of study and/or a degree from the respective home country.

If you are still unsure whether your school leaving certificate allows you to take up or continue university studies in Germany, the online information portal anabin (DE) of the Conference of Ministers of Culture can be of help to you. The information portal allows you to check for each country which school-leaving certificate gives you access to higher education.

With the database on admission requirements, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) offers an additional overview that can be used to check whether you meet the requirements for your desired degree program in Germany.

*If you do not yet hold a university entrance qualification, you may first have to attend a Studienkolleg. Please note that TU Dortmund University does not offer a Studienkolleg, but we will be happy to provide you with further information.

Application Modalities at TU Dortmund University

Generally, applications from non EU/EEA nationals with a foreign high school diploma or university degree are processed via uni-assist, the processing and service center for international student applications.

Therefore, if you have decided to pursue studies at TU Dortmund University, the application for the corresponding degree program is done via the uni-assist portal.

Please inform yourself comprehensively and well in advance on the web pages of the Admission and Enrollment Office for international applicants on the topics of application and enrollment.

There you will find, for example, an overview of the relevant information on the application process. On the website you can select the applicable criteria (Bachelor’s or Master's program, country of origin, etc.) and then get the respective information on how the application process works and which documents are required.

Likewise, you will find information on the language requirements and an overview of the recognized language certificates (under the item "Language Requirements").

If you need support in acquiring German language skills, inform yourself about our support program Language Training for Refugees. As part of the program, the Refugee Counseling and Integration Office offers preparatory German language courses (levels B1-C1).
