German Intensive Course
The Department of Foreign Languages at TU Dortmund University offers a 4-week German Intensive Course for exchange students in September and March. This intensive language course is free of charge.
The International Office recommends participating in the German Intensive Course, since all administrative procedures and orientation events take place during these four weeks, thus allowing students the best way to settle in before the start of the semester.
If you would like to take part in the four-week German Intensive Course, simply check the appropriate box in your application.
This course is only for students who will study at TU Dortmund University within the following exchange programs:
- Erasmus+ (Mobility with program and partner countries)
- USA Programm
- ISEP
- Student exchange at university level / faculty level
7 ECTS (or for ISEP/US students 4 US credits) are awarded for the successful completion of the German Intensive Course.
Courses are offered at all language levels A1-B2 (beginner, intermediate, advanced according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Which course is right for you will be determined in a short placement test on the first day of the German Intensive Course following the official welcome.
Further information and course descriptions can be found on the website of the Department of Foreign Languages.
The courses take place Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. The room numbers will be announced at the beginning of the course.
Official welcome and placement test: 9:00 a.m. | International Meeting Center (IBZ) of TU Dortmund University (North Campus | Emil-Figge-Straße 59)
On the first day of the German Intensive Course an official welcome will take place, where you will receive all the important information for the following days (e.g. enrolment, signing of the rental contract, dealing with authorities, opening of a bank account). The placement test takes place directly afterwards. Sometimes the course starts on a Tuesday for logistical reasons.
In general, participation in the German Intensive Course is only possible once. If you have not participated in the German Intensive Course prior to the semester start, you can take part in the following German Intensive Course, as long as there are free places available.
You may be absent for a maximum of two days during the German Intensive Course. If you are absent more than twice, you will unfortunately not be able to take the final examination. Furthermore, you will not receive a certificate of attendance, nor grade or credit points.
If you wish to receive a certificate of attendance, a grade and credit points, participation in the final examination is obligatory. Alternative dates are only offered in case of illness.
