DAAD scholarship for more equal opportunities

TU Dortmund University offers the DAAD scholarship for more equal opportunities throughout the year. With the help of this scholarship, international students and doctoral candidates with special challenges in their studies (e.g. special care situations for children or relatives in need of care, disability, refugee background) can be supported.

The scholarship is awarded to international students and doctoral candidates who can provide evidence of their special domestic requirements at the time of application.

Information on application and awarding

  • Enrollment at the TU Dortmund University
  • Place of residence in Dortmund or the surrounding area
  • good academic achievements (e.g. publications, prizes, duration of studies) with indication of the average grade
  • Proof of personal challenges
  • Fully completed application form (missing?)
  • Copy of the residence permit
  • Certificate of enrollment
  • Letter of motivation explaining the reasons for your choice of study and interest in the scholarship
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Language certificates if the course of study is conducted in German
  • Testimonials from university lecturers or employers
  • Current academic achievements (transcript of records)
  • Proof of financial situation (e.g. bank statements for the last three months)
  • if available, bank statements of the wife or husband
  • if available, a copy of the current employment contract

Proof of refugee status or similar protection (e.g. residence permit)

Proof of academic qualifications and degrees (if available) from the country of origin.

Statement of reasons for flight and personal challenges (letter of motivation)

Letters of recommendation from teachers or other relevant persons.

Proof of Bafög receipt/rejection and part-time job

  • Medical certificate confirming the type and degree of disability
  • Description of the specific needs and support measures required at the university
  • Certificates of previous school and academic achievements
  • Letters of recommendation from professionals in the field of disability or rehabilitation
  • Proof of family circumstances and responsibilities (e.g. degree of care of the relative(s), lack of daycare place for the child, etc.)
  • Explanation of the challenges arising from family obligations
  • Explanation of how the family will be integrated into the study plan
  • If applicable, references that shed light on family challenges and the ability to cope with studies

The DAAD scholarship is awarded according to available budget funds and after a thorough examination of the applications. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of scholarships to be awarded, a shortlist will be drawn up.

The funding amount is up to €600.00 per month for international Bachelor's and Master's students. For international doctoral students, the funding amount is up to € 1200.00.

The funding period is between one and six months for Bachelor's and Master's students and up to twelve months for doctoral students. The funding period is based on the individual needs of the applicants and their personal challenges.

Note: For funding in the current year, applications must be received by November 1 of the respective calendar year at the latest.

FAQ

Applications are open to international students and doctoral candidates who are enrolled at TU Dortmund University and face particular personal challenges. These include special care situations for children or relatives in need of care, a degree of disability or a refugee background.

In principle, doctoral candidates and students can apply in any semester of their studies. Please note, however, that funding is tied to enrolment at TU Dortmund University and therefore expires at the latest at the end of your studies.

If you meet all the requirements for the DAAD Scholarship for Equal Opportunities, you will be invited to an online application interview by e-mail.

After reviewing your documents and the digital interview, it may take up to a week before you receive an acceptance or rejection by e-mail. If you are accepted, you must sign a declaration of acceptance and a scholarship agreement in order to receive payment of the scholarship.

You can apply for the DAAD scholarship up to three times.
