Are you leaving Dortmund?
Before leaving Dortmund, you should terminate both your rental contract and possible contracts with electricity, gas and internet providers, etc. in due time.
Since rental agreements in Germany often have a notice period of several months, you should find out about the relevant deadlines as early as possible in order to know about any possible consequences.
Please also inform other relevant contact points (mobile phone provider, health insurance and liability insurance provider, banking institution, etc.) in good time when you move.
If you move within Germany, you do not necessarily have to de-register with the city of Dortmund.
It is sufficient to register your new residence in your new city in Germany within two weeks. The de-registration with the city of Dortmund will then occur automatically.
When moving, you should inform relevant authorities, insurance companies, etc. about your new address (only in German). In addition, there is the option of creating a change-of-address order (only in German) with Deutsche Post for a limited period of time. This order will ensure that future mail still addressed to your old address will be forwarded directly to your new address.
If you move within Germany, you must also notify the contribution service of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio about the change in your place of residence as soon as possible. You can make the changes to your personal data online (only in German).
