Japan has been an important cooperation partner for TU Dortmund University for many years. Over the years, active and consistent cooperative relationships have been established both at research level in individual departments and through university-wide student exchanges.

TU Dortmund University has been an associated supporter of the German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) Tokyo since 2019. Founded in 2010, the DWIH in Tokyo focuses in particular on the exchange of knowledge between Germany and Japan and supports the establishment and expansion of (research) collaborations. As part of the network, TU Dortmund University has access to various services and program calls of the DWIH Tokyo.
