Which Documents Are Required for the Specific Degree Program?
For individual study programs, special program-specific documents are required in addition to the general application documents. Please inform yourself in advance on this page, which study program specific documents you need.
1-subject bachelor program
In order to be admitted to the program, students must demonstrate competence in the English language which must be at least equivalent to level "B2" according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (proven by language certificate). If the proof cannot be provided by means of the university entrance qualification, corresponding substitute certificates can be recognized by the Institute for English and American Studies. Please submit any replacement certificates with your application.

Applicants who belong to the group of non-EU/EEA Nationals are required to submit a TestAS certificate with the subject module “Humanities, Cultural Studies, and Social Sciences.” A minimum of 100 points must be achieved in both the core module and the subject module. The test must not be more than one year old at the time of application. Both paper-based and digital tests are accepted.

For the admission to the study program, competences in the English language, which must correspond at least to the level "B2" according to the European reference framework, must be proven. As a rule, the proof is provided by the certificate of the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife. If the proof cannot be provided by the university entrance qualification, corresponding substitute proofs can be recognized by the Institute of English and American Studies. Substitute certificates must be submitted for application. However, the following language level is recommended for admission to the program:
- Completion of the advanced course in English with an average of 10 points in the last four semesters of school.
- Cambridge ESOL: grade A for FCE or grade "pass" for CAE or CPE
- TELC: C1 passed, or B2 with grade 1;
- TOEFL: minimum score of 550 on the written test with a grade of 5.0 on the Written English test (or a minimum score of 80 on TOEFL iBT);
- IELTS (Academic or General): Minimum score of 6 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each part;
- APIEL: minimum score of 3 [= pass];
- Certified Foreign Language Correspondent English (IHK).
