Application

In the Erasmus+ program you first apply for an exchange place in your department, then you register with the International Office for official admission to the program and to receive the mobility grant. In addition, each partner university has its own application procedure that you have to go through. To make sure that you know exactly what to do and when during this process, please read the following three steps carefully.

The application for an Erasmus+ place is slightly different in each department. You can find out how exactly on the respective department's website (in the case of students studying to become teachers, this can be several departments). Many departments regularly offer information events on studying abroad - look out for notices, invitations by e-mail and keep an eye on your department's homepage.

Under Erasmus+ partner universities, the International Office has compiled important links to all partner universities, to the department's websites with the application criteria, the selection procedure, the deadlines and the application itself.

The application criteria are usually motivation, language competence and academic performance.

For a successful study abroad, make sure that you already have a good knowledge of the foreign language prior to your departure. You can also find information about improving your language skills on our website Checklist for your stay abroard.

Even if there are exceptions for Switzerland and the UK, there are still exchange opportunities here. The same application formalities often apply.

Once you have been selected by your department for the Erasmus+ program, you must submit the Online Acceptance Form, which is also the application for an Erasmus+ mobility grant. For the academic year 2024/2025 (winter semester 2024/2025 and summer semester 2025) the deadline is 31 March 2024.

Online Acceptance Form

  1. fill in online
  2. submit online
  3. print and sign
  4. have it signed by your Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator
  5. send it by mail to the International Office (International Office | Erasmus+ Outgoings | Emil-Figge-Straße 61 | 44227 Dortmund) or drop it in the letterbox in front of the building
  6. finished

You will first receive a confirmation of receipt by e-mail and shortly before your stay abroad the following documents will be sent to you by regular mail:

  • Letter of Acceptance and Grant Agreement with the notification of the amount of the mobility grant for the academic year in which the exchange takes place
  • Certificate of the study abroad  (e.g. for a leave of absence via the Student Registration Office)

Please have a look at the Erasmus+ Student Charter to learn more about the rights and obligations of Erasmus+ outgoings.

To register at the host university, you must check the website of your host university (usually found under "International Office") and register there yourself. This does not happen automatically.

Your Erasmus+ Departmental Coordinator must have nominated you in advance at the host university.

A language certificate and an English Transcript of Records are also often requested by the host university. If you need a translation of your Transcript of Records, you can apply for one. The processing time can take up to 4 weeks - please keep an eye on the deadlines. Please read this information on our website Checklist for your Stay Abroad.
