Cultural evening "Garba Night

Ready to put on your dance shoes?

The Automation and Robotics Student Council (FSAR) is hosting "Garba Night" as part of Second Monday - an evening of culture with a dance workshop, food and fun during this season of festivities.

A dance workshop led by students skilled in both dance forms aims to teach some basic movements of the Indian dance forms Dandiya and Garba. Afterwards, everyone is invited to dance the practiced dance forms together and finally enjoy the evening on the open dance floor or dinner together.

If you wish, you can also come in the traditional dress of your country or culture!

A meal will be served during the event, but only 50 spots are available. So please come early to secure your meal tickets! The Student Council asks that you register in advance to secure a meal voucher. Register using the Automation and Robotics Student Council registration form below.

Note: The event is free to attend and is open to students in any degree program. Staff members are also welcome to attend.

Would you like to meet with other students and organize different events in various formats?

Every second Monday of the month, you can independently arrange informative, cultural events related to studies or free time activities. You can also organize the events together with your student groups, department, or faculty. We will provide you with a location, advertising, flyers and 50 Euros for food and drinks.

If you are interested in offering an event with one of the above-mentioned topics or if you would like to offer a different event, send us an email (social.counselingtu-dortmund.de) with your idea and plan. We will print flyers for you, give you 50 Euros for food and drinks, and create a certificate of participation as a cultural ambassador.

Read the FAQs below to find out important information for organizing an event.

FAQ Second Monday

Second Monday takes place every month on the second Monday from 6:00 pm to about 8:00 pm (digitally). If that date is a holiday, it is pushed to the third Monday of the month.

Second Monday takes place throughout the year from January until December with the exception of October.

Departments, international organizations or ambitious international students can sign up for dates they are interested in and have time to host a Second Monday. There is no set order.

Cultural-related events, cooking nights, craft nights, get-to-know-you games, game night and other creative ideas for an exchange with other students.

  • In case of an in-person event, the respective faculty or group of students are responsible for the IBZ.
  • The foyer and seminar room 2/3 of the IBZ are always available for Second Monday and are booked for 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. That means that you are able to set up starting at 5:00 pm. If you would like to arrive earlier, please let us know. If your Second Monday will take place elsewhere, please have the IBZ act as your meeting point and then go to the other location together.
  • There is a kitchen in the IBZ that you are able to use for Second Monday. If you use it, please leave everything as you found it.
  • If you have never been to the IBZ before and would like a small tour, let us know.
  • The faculty, organization or students hosting the event can receive a link for a Zoom-Meeting from the International Office. Depending on the event organizer and the content, a student assistant from the international office can offer digital assistance for the event.
  • If necessary, and only with a negative Coronavirus test, certain events can also be streamed from the IBZ (ex. cooking night). Technical equipment can be organized through the International Office in advance.
  • There is a budget of 50€ available for each Second Monday. You are able to use this money to buy food and drinks. It’s not possible to buy alcohol with this money and the deposit for any bottles bought will be deducted.
  • In special cases, the budget can be increased. Please talk to us before making any purchases.
  • You will have to pay in advance. Make sure you keep the original receipts! Hand in these receipts together with the name, bank account information and address of the person who paid in advance. Send the scan copies to social.counselingtu-dortmundde  and send the original receipts via post to the International Office, Ms. Jenny Nguyen, Emil Figge str. 61, 44227 Dortmund. The money will then be transferred to your account.

Yes. It is very important to give us a list of participants at the end of the event.

  • The DAAD requires a list of participants together with their yearly report. In order for our mailing list to grow and for us to have an overview of how many participants we have at our Second Monday events, we have a participation list template for you to use. Please write down the information for all of the participants. The lists assist with managing Second Mondays and are important for the continuity (especially the financing) of Second Mondays. The information will not be given out to third parties.
  • In order to apply for Second Monday, the organizing team from the faculty or student group needs to create a digital poster. The concept, design etc. is virtually unlimited.
  • Please note that you are not allowed to use protected pictures for your poster! Due to copyright laws, you are unfortunately not allowed to use them.

Additionally, your digital poster should include the following four criteria:

  1. The information that Second Monday takes place every second Monday in the month
  2. The topic for Second Monday
  3. If applicable, the “International Department” logo
  4. The logo of the International Office
  5. The logo of the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Auslandsdienst)
  • Digital advertisement: After you have created your flyer or poster, also send it to us as a JPEG file vertically and horizontally. We will advertise the event on our website and social media accounts.
  • You can of course also share these advertisements on you own social media accounts.
