Is this the right time to go to the US?

Yes, it is!! A stay in the US - despite what you may see in the media - is more interesting than ever before right now. But hear it directly from our students: Our Study Abroad Storytellers report back regularly on our website and through Instagram. In addition, students have continually stressed how much you can get from a stay in the US - even right now - in presentations that we have done in the last few months. You can find recordings of some of the presentations in Sciebo.

Odyssey Camp Counselor Programm

Do you like working with children and teenagers? Then the Odyssey Camp Counselor Program may be the right choice for you.

The Camp Counselor Program enables post-secondary students, youth workers, teachers and applicants with specialized skills to share their culture and ideas with the people of the United States in camp settings throughout the country. Participants in the program receive pay and benefits, such as meals and accommodation, commensurate to their American counterparts at the camps. The programs vary in length depending on the season of the camp with a maximum program duration of 4 months. After the program is complete, participants have 30 days to travel and explore the United States before they need to depart the country.

Important Note for English Education Students: Even in the shorter camps it is usually still possible to extend your stay  in order to fulfill the 12-week Stay Abroad requirement for your studies

America offers a broad range of camps with different focuses such as sports, outdoor activities, cultural and religious emphases, gender specific, arts and crafts or any combination thereof! There is undoubtedly the perfect camp for you depending on your skills and interests. The only common denominator is that you must be enthusiastic about working with children and interested in exploring America!

Scholarships for the USA

On the webpage for scholarships for internships you will see scholarship foundations and databases where you may find  the right scholarship for your plans.

In addition, students enrolled at TU Dortmund University may apply for the PROMOS scholarship (a travel stipend) through 15 April (for the second half of the year) or 15 October (for the first half of the following year).

Odyssey will award one scholarship for TU Dortmund

Odyssey will also award one scholarship to a person who applies for J1 sponsorship through them Odyssey. The scholarship will cover almost all J! participation costs (not included are the insurance, SEVIS and consular/visa fees).  This scholarship may also be combined with other scholarships (e.g. PROMOS).
